Collinson Fine Art Working in Colored Pencil, Photography, and Encaustic painting
I am a self-taught artist residing in North Aurora, lL. I have had a beautiful studio in the Starline Factory in Harvard, IL since June 2018.
Art for me is a second career as I have a computer science degree and worked in the field for many years. In 2010, I decided to take some art classes and started with drawing and colored pencil. This led to doing more photography, in part, for the subject matter for my drawing. I love the attention to detail needed for both colored pencil and photography. I find that observing life, usually, plants and animals inspires me to create honest realistic drawings and photographs that capture moments in time. In 2013, I added encaustic painting into my practice. Unlike colored pencil and photography, there is a sense of the unknown in encaustic painting as the wax will have a mind of its own, and I find joy in seeing where it will take me. Recently, I have been combining all of these mediums together and creating mixed media pieces. My pieces range from realistic to abstract to whimsical.
I think of my pieces as capturing and inspiring moments. Some of these moments are sentimental, some joyful and all honestly represent me. Just as an artist can get lost in the creation of their art, my hope is that others can get lost in my art and be inspired.
